Forthcoming Events

IMPORTANT NOTICE!

Owing to unforeseen family circumstances, Movie Nights and Dementia HAS Hope have been cancelled until further notice. We apologise for this, and hope to provide these services in the near future. Until then, please pray for improvement with the difficulties we need to attend to. Thank you, and God bless you all.

MOVIE NIGHTS ARE BACK!

The WEEKEND STARTS HERE, every Friday evening from 6:00pm-9:00pm. See your favourite movies on our modular system’s composite 113 inch screen. Featured Movies start and end in time for those travelling by bus (X42 & X76B). The movie showing on Friday 22 July starts at 6:40pm, & ends by 8:32pm. The bus stop is in front of the church.

What’s more, there’s no need to book, and adults don’t have to accompany children aged 10 years & above. Movies shown will be rated as U, PG, 12 or 12A according to The British Board of Film Classification, providing guidelines to help you decide if it’s suitable, such as this week’s 12A to be shown on Friday 22 July.

While our licensing restrictions don’t allow us to name the movies, you can contact the Kirk Session Clerk to ask (& to make suggestions for any you’d love to watch), or maybe work it out from clues. This week’s movie is about an ancient city that is VERY difficult to find, and features an all-star cast…

There is NO CHARGE and everyone is welcome; we only ask that you consider making a small donation if you are able, to help us cover costs. We look forward to welcoming you on Friday evenings, here at Muirkirk Kirk.

Dementia H.A.S. Hope (Help | Action | Support)

A new service is running every Friday from 12:00 noon until 2:00pm for all people affected by dementia. If you or someone dear to you has been diagnosed with dementia, or you may be caring for someone, or perhaps you are visiting a loved one in a care home, you are most welcome to drop in to see us. Colin and Sylvia Gallacher have experience of working with people living with dementia, and we can help you, no matter where you are on this journey. No need to book, just come along for a cuppa and a chat. Come with questions – leave with answers, and know that we’re here for you.

Could you be what a 208-year-old building needs?

Muirkirk Parish Church is looking for volunteers to help look after the church building, and to assist the Fabric Convener with a view to taking over.

This is a rare opportunity for anyone who has an interest in old buildings and how they are maintained, with the aim of gaining experience of looking after a category B listed building. There are also opportunities for training if you do not have any knowledge of building maintenance, through shadowing the present Fabric Convener. Further training could help progress a career in listed building maintenance.

You don’t have to be a Christian or a member of a congregation to take on this role, which is open to ages 18 and over. If you know of anyone outside of the village who may be interested, please let them know, as any out of pocket expenses are covered.

The main duties of this role are:

  • Inspecting the church, a minimum of every 3 months for any building damage.
  • To perform a more detailed inspection of the building every 12 months.
  • Checking the building after severe weather and taking appropriate action.
  • Liaising with building tradespeople when needed.
  • General maintenance of the building.

This Church Buildings Handbook (pdf file above) contains plenty of information about caring for a church building. As a Priority Area Church, we have extra help with finding funds, and our decisions are weighted, which may grant us a greater say than other churches.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact the Session Clerk.
